AI tools to turbo-charge hiring for startups (+VCs)

We're hiring up aggressively at Equal and at many of our portfolio companies in 2026. As much as I love getting to meet talented individuals and operators from the industry, there are many aspects of recruiting that I find to be extremely time-consuming and exhausting – from promoting and marketing roles to reviewing the hundreds (or thousands) of applicants that we often end up receiving.

Recruiting takes up a lot of time for us as well as our portfolio execs and for good reason given how crucial it is to any upstart's success. However, for many aspects of these workflows, AI feels well poised to drive a fair bit of efficiency to streamline several parts of the process.

I've been wanting to map out a bit more of the ecosystem of what is possible to uncover some more areas where we can leverage tools and specifics ones we should be utilizing and recommending.   • Copilots – there seem to be several notetakers / ambient listeners (ex. HireLogic). I personally find less leverage in vertically-specific solutions in this bucket (over tools like Granola / Fireflies / Notion) and so I haven't broken these out above.
  • Verticalized Players – many exist like Skillit, BuildForce, Ablemkr, LaborUp, AchillesHR, amongst dozens of others if you're looking to hire up in a specific industry or for a specific role.
